The discovery of an icon in the village of Chumai

The culmination of the trip of the co-founder of the Vasnetsov Foundation, Elena Vladimirovna Kuznetsova, to the places of service of priests from the Vasnetsov family in the Vyatka Diocese (Udmurtia) was an event that surprised local residents, priests and local historians. On July 13, after a prayer service in honor of the 12 apostles in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Chutyr, everyone went to the nearby village of Chumoy. The wooden church building, built more than a century ago, has been preserved here. Among the first ministers of the church was Nikolai Fedorovich Vasnetsov.

The church building was damaged during the time of the God-fearing and now serves as a gym for a local school. When examining one of the walls, Elena Vladimirovna and Father Vadim asked to remove the cladding, under which an almost one and a half meter image of a girl with a ribbon was found. Even more unexpected was the discovery at the top of the painting of a protruding lower layer of paint with the image of a dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit with the inscription "Baptism of the Lord". The valuable find was handed over to fr. To Vadim for further research. The guesses were confirmed, and after a long restoration process, the main temple icon of the Chumoy Church, which has been around for 130 years, was found. Providential are the ways of the Lord!
